New boards, original red oak, and a lighter finish. For this patch-and-refinish project, Practical Renovations Wood Flooring LLC wove new flooring into an existing 2¼-inch random-length red oak floor, then sanded and refinished the floor together.

Weaving new flooring into the original

The existing floor used 2¼-inch random-length red oak. We wove new flooring into the original boards, then sanded everything flat and smooth so the repaired area and existing floor could be refinished together.

A brighter look with softer red tones

The homeowner wanted to keep the floor as light as possible while softening red oak’s natural red tones. We used a white tint to mute that hue and create a cleaner, brighter appearance while keeping the wood’s character visible.

Every existing floor is different. The wood, its condition, and the finish you choose all affect the result. We can assess your floor and discuss repair and refinishing options before work begins.
